I thought an event I attended last night might be of interest here.
Two years ago, at the time that my son graduated from the DaVinci Charter Academy here in town there was no organized internship program with the community. Two years ago that changed with the arrival of a teacher very interested in forming partnerships with businesses located in Davis. Last year, in the first year of her advocacy, she placed seven seniors in local companies. This year there were over 20. Next year, there are 65 students signed up for the program.NOne student spoke quite eloquently about how much he had learned and developed during his internship. I think sometimes there may be a tendency to make judgements based on old information, misleading statistics and our own biased ways of viewing the world, rather than seeing the innovation that is going on around us.
