Today, Mariko Yamada’s campaign for State Senate District 3 announced a new endorsement from the Faculty Association of California Community Colleges, an organization that advocates for community college faculty in California.
The organization joins other education-advocacy groups supporting Yamada’s campaign, including California Federation of Teachers, Los Rios College Federation of Teachers, University Council – American Federation of Teachers at UC Davis, SEIU California and AFSCME Council 57.
The Faculty Association of California Community Colleges advocates for all community college faculty in California. Since 1953, FACCC has provided focused representation to promote funding, academic freedom and retirement benefits. With members at all 113 campuses across California, FACCC continues to strengthen the position of faculty in the state capitol, the state chancellor’s office and the State Teachers’ Retirement System.
Mariko Yamada said, “I believe that the first two years of community college should be free for all, and as part of my work to support student services and provide education for everyone I am proud to have received the endorsement of the Faculty Association of California Community Colleges. I support labor and community college faculty throughout California and I look forward to advocating for them in Sacramento.”
The Faculty Association of California Community Colleges endorsement adds to a broad coalition of support that includes the California Nurses Association, California League of Conservation Voters, California Women’s List, National Women’s Political Caucus, California Association of Psychiatric Technicians and scores of principled Democratic leaders including State Controller Betty Yee, Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones, Treasurer John Chiang, Congressman John Garamendi and other community leaders throughout the state.
