Coalition Appeals Court Decision Weakening Civilian Oversight in Sonoma County

The California Coalition for Sheriff Oversight, the Law Enforcement Action Partnership, and the American Civil Liberties Union of Northern California filed an amicus brief in support of the appeal of a 2024 Sonoma County Superior Court ruling that undermined civilian oversight of local law enforcement, arguing that the court’s decision was legally flawed and contradicted the legislative intent behind Assembly Bill 1185 and the local mandate for independent oversight expressed through Measure P.
