California Peace Officers’ Association Endorses Yamada For Senate
CPOA adds its name to a broad coalition of support behind Yamada’s campaign for State Senate, District 3
(From Press Release) – Today, Mariko Yamada announced the endorsement of the California Peace Officers’ Association (CPOA), which represents 3,000 members of all ranks of law enforcement who are committed to progressive leadership within its professional community.
CPOA joins a broad coalition of supporters lining up behind Yamada’s campaign, including the California Federation of Teachers, California Nurses Association, Consumer Attorneys of California, Consumer Federation of California, California League of Conservation Voters, California Women’s List and many other distinguished organizations.
“Mariko Yamada has the first-hand knowledge of how decisions in Sacramento will affect the safety of our families throughout the state,” said Deputy Chief David McGill, President of CPOA. “We look forward to partnering with her to create policies that provide the men and women in uniform the resources and support needed to do their job.”
Mariko Yamada said, “I am honored by this endorsement from the hardworking law enforcement professionals in the CPOA. They know that I’ll fight hard for what’s right, not what’s easy, and will bring an experienced and balanced voice to the issues facing our communities and keeping people and law enforcement safe.”
Yamada continued, “The people in this State Senate District deserve a representative who will work for them, and not for corporate special interests, like my opponent in this race. There’s a clear choice between me and Bill Dodd – not just what we stand for – but who’s supporting our campaigns. While our strength comes from thousands of individual small donors, my opponent was the beneficiary of $3.2 million in spending from outside special interest groups in the June Primary alone. We need leaders who will put Main Street ahead of Wall Street, and that’s why I’m running.”
Dodd Campaign Begins Airing Ad Featuring Gov. Brown
(From Press Release) – State Assemblyman Bill Dodd’s campaign for state Senate began airing a new ad on television and online featuring Governor Edmund G. “Jerry” Brown. In the spot, Gov. Brown references the fact that he has endorsed only a few candidates running on November’s ballot, and that Dodd is a candidate he feels strongly about getting elected. Click here to see the ad.
“Bill Dodd will help make schools better and the state’s finances stronger,” said Governor Brown.
“I like Bill because he’s an independent person. He works with everyone – but isn’t afraid to say “no” to anyone, when it’s the right thing to do,” continued Brown. “And that’s why I endorse Bill Dodd for state Senate and urge you to vote for him.”
Dodd is running for the 3rd Senate District, which includes all of Napa and Solano Counties, as well as portions of Contra Costa, Sacramento, Sonoma and Yolo Counties.
Dodd is a Democrat from Napa County. After a successful 25-year business career, Dodd served four terms on the Napa County Board of Supervisors, and currently represents the 4th Assembly District.

On November 8, I will cast my vote for Mariko Yamada for the California State Senate. Of the two candidates for State Senate, Mariko is by far the most experienced.
She served two terms in the California State Assembly and, before that, four years on the Yolo County Board of Supervisors. She is the candidate who will fight for the needs of poor and vulnerable populations, who will advocate for agricultural preservation and who can be counted on to combat climate change by supporting efforts to reduce carbon emissions that put the health of all of us and our local economy at risk.
As a social worker for more than 40 years Mariko has worked with families going through tough times. She understands that too many Californians struggle with stagnant wages and a high cost of living, living from paycheck to paycheck. As State Senator Mariko will stand up for families, not for corporate interests, making sure that everyone pays their fair share –including extending the Prop 30 tax on the wealthy and closing the corporate loopholes in Prop 13.
Mariko knows what it’s like to care for an aging parent while raising a family. Drawing on that experience, she chaired the Assembly’s Aging and Long Term Care Committee for five years. As State Senator, one of her top priorities will be to establish the first Senate Committee on Aging and Long-Term Care to address such issues facing California senior citizens as access to health care and affordable housing.
During her service on the Yolo County Board of Supervisors Mariko was a leading advocate for open space and agricultural preservation.
Judging by her past record these are just some of the issues Mariko Yamada will take on if elected to the State Senate. She is not beholden to the big moneyed special interests and she doesn’t take donations from them – not from the big corporations, not from the tobacco companies, not from Big Oil. Mariko can be counted on to represent all of the people in Senate District 3 and will work to make all of our lives better.

At a recent Democratic party meeting, it was made clear that the local Democratic organization was backing Mr. Dodd. Several speakers stated that for them, this was due to the feeling that they could “work with” Mr. Dodd. While this is a fine sentiment, I see the over riding issue in this election is whose positions align most closely with my own beliefs. Although I certainly respect Mr. Dodd’s willingness to listen to opposing views, his ongoing actions demonstrate to me that although he “listens” he does not often change any of his underlying assumptions which I find more closely in alignment with the moderate branch of the Republican party from which he recently came, than I do to any group within the Democratic party except perhaps those who have been recently designated the “corporate Democrats”. I will be voting for Mariko Yamada and hope that others will also consider whose views are most consistent with their own, not who is possibly the more affable candidate.

As a moderate conservative at times republican and other times a democrat but mostly a conservative fiscally and yet truly a social libertarian…I lost trust in unions…..
But, now I am happy to see that the Peace Officers are supporting Mariko.
For those who think that one has to be a Fiscal conservative and vote for the likes of Mariko’s opponent to understand law and order and so on….well open your eyes….. folks…..
Local and state elections are non-partisan….vote for the best person….no matter what the party.
