Letter: Davis High PTA Endorses Measure G

DHS PTA 2019/20 Executive Board

The Davis High School PTA voted to endorse Measure G, and we’d like to ask for your YES vote on March 3. DHS PTA recognizes the role a consistent staff plays on our campus. Being a teen is challenging enough and having adults who know you and understand where you’ve been and where you’re trying to go is key. We need a stable environment for our teenagers that can support them in the last few steps before adulthood. The success of DHS depends upon four core values:

Programs — we need to offer classes that prepare students for careers.
Facilities — we need to have the space and infrastructure to teach 21st century learning.
Family — we need students and parents to feel welcomed and acknowledged.
Staff — we need dedicated and talented staff who are using best practices and compassionate teaching.

Measure G will help achieve the Staff principle. At the core of every PTA’s mission is to advocate for its school community. Let’s support our children and our teachers and pass Measure G!

    Exactly. DJUSD is presently training teachers for other districts. Pay equity can reduce that problem.

      Facts not in evidence as to compensation.  DTA claim, and not compared to other Districts…

      Pay equity can reduce that problem.

      “May” might be a better term than “can”…

      Beginning teachers often ‘migrate’, for various reasons, and not all is due to total comp.  I know, as a professional, I did not ‘migrate’ due to total comp.  Other factors… and in my professional career, I only ‘migrated’ once, and even tho’ it was a ‘promotion’ in job class, it was a ‘push’ as to compensation (actually, slight reduction).

      What you seem to imply is that experienced, competent teachers, don’t migrate to DJUSD… again, facts not in evidence…

      There are also many experienced, competent teachers, who earn much less in compensation, and choose private/parochial schools to share their experience and competence… not for the compensation… married to one… worked also for DJUSD @ times…marginally competent teachers (and some even less so), will have ‘their boats float’ due to this measure… and will be no more competent as a result… result of union rules DJUSD has adopted… competence is not rewarded… tenure is…

      But, I support the concept of attracting the “best and brightest”… but we have a lot (minority) of DJUSD folk who will benefit, and don’t deserve (in my opinion) to…

Kids went thru DJUSD… some teachers “went away” (not fired, not disciplined, parents had no feedback)… some were even so bad as to say our kids hadn’t returned homework…  had two kids who cried for days that they said the teacher got it, but were told they didn’t… neither teacher is currently employed by DJUSD… pretty sure we were far from being the only parents who complained… on behalf of the kids where we saw they did the homework, and have absolutely no reason to believe they didn’t turn it in…

          Guess you think teachers are all gods and goddesses…  your perogative… I’ll not try to tell you what to believe… please don’t try to negate what we have experienced…

          Think “bell curve”… or do you think in the Lake Wobegon ideal that all DJUSD teachers are all 90% above “average”…  no slackers, no misfits… fine… live in your myths… it is your right…
