Judge Samuel McAdam was allowed to continue presiding over the second trial of Carlos Dominguez after a judge ruled that the prosecution failed to establish that McAdam was biased.
Carlos Reales Dominguez’s retrial has been set for January 20, 2026, after the previous trial ended in a mistrial, with the charges revised to second-degree murder and attempted murder with enhancements for use of a deadly weapon and a prior felony conviction.
Judge McAdam ruled in a pretrial hearing in Yolo County Superior Court that the jury will receive instructions on the insanity defense statute, the prosecution’s motion to exclude certain photos of the defendant was denied, and the defense’s motion to suppress Dominguez’s statements to law enforcement was also denied.
