The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) is holding public hearings on PG&E’s proposed rate hike.
The meetings for our area will be on June 9 at 10 AM and 7 PM at Hampton Inn and Suites, 2060 Freeway Drive, Woodland. PG&E seeks a $4.2 billion rate increase over the next three years, effective January 2011. According to PG&E, these additional funds are needed for various operating costs.
The Division of Ratepayer Advocates (DRA), an independent consumer advocacy division of CPUC, evaluated the expenses in question to be $1.02 billion; consequently DRA recommends a 76% reduction in the requested rate increase (www.dra.ca.gov/DRA/News; 5/6/10).
