Not content to rest on their 2010 laurels, the Davis Odd Fellows Lodge has today launched the 2011 version of their “World’s Greatest Bicycle Parade.”
In 2010, the Bicycle Committee led a successful effort to set a Guinness World’s record for “longest single line of bicycles” – the record can be seen at the website of Guinness at www.guinnessworldrecords.com. Further information on the 2010 effort and the new 2011 effort can be found at www.worldsgreatestbicycleparade.com. “In addition to setting a world’s record and providing a lot of fun to folks who participated, we were able to give $10,000 to the Davis Schools through the Davis Schools Foundation,” said Bicycle Committee Chairman Frank Giustino.
“I believe that we can easily break our own record,” said Giustino. “In 2010 we had to limit registrations to 1,200 because of the relatively short route, and many more than 916 actually participated in the parade. But when the first person crossed the finish line, the ‘line of bikes’ ended at 916, even though there were still others in the parade. This year, we will allow more registrations, and we will have a longer route to accommodate a longer line. I predict that we’ll go well over 1,000 in the parade in 2011.”
More information on the 2011 Bicycle Parade will be provided in the coming weeks. Registration for the parade will open this summer.
The Davis Odd Fellows Lodge has been a fixture in Davis since 1870. Located at 415 Second Street, the Davis Odd Fellows are a fraternal order with over 160 members, dedicated to doing good works in the community. Odd Fellows are a fraternal order dating back to 18th Century England. The Lodge is non-political, not affiliated with any religion, and is open to men and women over 16 years of age.

The Davis Odd Fellows Bicycle Parade Committee announced today an early slate of endorsements for the 2011 effort to break the Guinness World Record for “longest single line of bicycles”. In 2010, the Odd Fellows led the effort to set the Guinness World Record with 916 bicycles in motion in a line.
“This year we’ll shatter that record,” said Bicycle Committee spokesman Dave Rosenberg. “We expect well over 1,000 bicycles simultaneously in motion in a single line. That’s a new world record.”
Endorsing the 2011 bike parade are the Davis Chamber of Commerce, the Davis Enterprise, the Woodland Daily Democrat, the Rotary Club of Davis, the Davis Sunrise Rotary, the Davis Sunset Rotary, Soroptimist International of Davis, the Davis Odd Fellows Lodge, the Davis Rebekah Lodge, the Yoche Dehe Wintun Nation Community Fund, Abaton Consulting and Frank Giustino and Sons.
Also endorsing the 2011 bike parade are Congressman Mike Thompson, State Senator Lois Wolk, State Assembly Member Mariko Yamada, Yolo County Supervisors Don Saylor and Jim Provenza, Davis Mayor Joe Krovoza, Davis Mayor Pro Tem Rochelle Swanson, Davis City Council Members Sue Greenwald, Steve Souza and Dan Wolk, President of the Davis Board of Education Richard Harris, and Board of Education Members Sheila Allen, Gina Daleiden, and Susan Lovenburg. Additionally, endorsing the parade are Former Davis Mayors Maynard Skinner and Ruth Asmundson, as well as Yolo County District Attorney Jeff Reisig, Yolo County Public Defender Tracie Olson, and Davis Police Chief Landy Black.
The Bike Committee stressed that these are early endorsements of the effort and more endorsements are expected in the coming weeks.
The 2011 version of the bike parade will start in front of the Davis Odd Fellows Lodge Hall, 415 Second Street, in Downtown Davis on Sunday, October 2, 2011, at 10:02 a.m. A gentle and slow-moving route will be laid out of approximately 4 miles in the effort to set a new Guinness World Record.
