Davis Seeks Public Input on Walking, Biking and Transportation Improvements

By Vanguard Staff

DAVIS, Calif. — The city of Davis is seeking public input on a new 10-year Active Transportation Plan aimed at improving pedestrian and bicycle safety, expanding mobility options and identifying infrastructure improvements throughout the community.

Residents, students, workers and visitors are encouraged to participate in an online survey to identify areas where walking, bicycling and other forms of active transportation could be improved. The survey will remain open through Dec. 15.

The Active Transportation Plan will focus on walking, bicycling, rolling, using mobility devices and accessing public transit stops and stations. It will establish policies and design guidelines while identifying and prioritizing infrastructure projects throughout Davis and its surrounding planning area.

The city has contracted with engineering and consulting firm GHD to develop the plan and conduct community outreach. Funded through Caltrans’ Sustainable Transportation Planning Grant Program, the plan is expected to be adopted in summer 2028.

Projects identified through the planning process will be implemented as funding becomes available and necessary design, environmental review and approvals are completed.

In addition to completing the survey, community members can use an interactive map to identify specific locations where safety improvements, better connections or other transportation changes are needed. Survey participants will also have an opportunity to win a Downtown Davis gift card.

City staff and GHD representatives will gather feedback at the Davis Food Co-op Halloween Block Party on Oct. 24 from 5 to 8 p.m. at 620 G St. and at the Zombie Bike Parade on Oct. 31 from 10 a.m. to noon at Community Park.

A community open house is planned for early 2027, with additional details to be announced.

The Active Transportation Plan is being developed alongside the city’s 2050 General Plan Update. While the General Plan addresses broader issues such as housing, land use, conservation and transportation, the Active Transportation Plan will focus specifically on walking, bicycling and rolling over the next decade.

Community members can complete the survey, provide comments on the interactive map and find additional information about upcoming meetings at https://www.cityofdavis.org/DavisATP.
