Beronio’s Campaign Announces Her Campaign Team
The Janene Beronio for Judge 2014 Committee announced its leadership team today. Judge Stephen Mock has agreed to serve as Chair of the Campaign and Judges Dave Rosenberg and Dan Maguire will serve as Senior Advisers to the Campaign.
“I am so pleased and honored to have Judge Mock as head of my team, and to have Judge Rosenberg and Judge Maguire as my advisers,” said Superior Court Commissioner Beronio. “They provide a wealth of both judicial and campaign experience to me, and they are all seasoned mentors for me.”
Judge Mock is the longest-serving judge on the Yolo Superior Court, having first taken his position as judge through election. It is, in fact, Judge Mock’s judicial seat that is open for election. Judge Mock recently announced that he would not seek re-election to the seat and would be retiring – thus opening up the seat for election. Judge Mock’s career has paralleled Commissioner Beronio’s career in many ways. Prior to being elected as a Yolo Superior Court Judge, Mock served as a prosecutor with the Yolo County District Attorney’s Office. And he has served over 20 years as a judge. Prior to being appointed as a Yolo Superior Court Commissioner, Beronio also served as a prosecutor with the Yolo County District Attorney’s Office. And she has served over 20 years as a Court Commissioner.
“I have watched Janene Beronio as a prosecutor and as a judicial officer,” said Judge Mock. “No one can match her experience in all areas of the law. That’s why every single Judge on the Yolo Bench – both active and retired – have endorsed her. I am proud to lead her campaign.”
Judge Rosenberg has been a candidate in numerous successful campaigns for the Davis City Council and the Yolo Board of Supervisors, where he served for 19 years. He has twice stood for election as Judge of the Yolo Superior Court. Judge Maguire most recently was a candidate in a contested judicial election and won with over 75% of the vote.
“Other candidates who are self-funding their campaigns may outspend us, but we are confident that Janene Beronio’s unique history and skills as a Yolo Superior Court Commissioner will convince Yolo County voters that she is the best qualified to serve as Judge Mock’s successor,” said Judge Rosenberg. “She has served as a Yolo County judicial officer for some 25 years, covering the broad spectrum of cases heard in the Superior Court. No other candidate has that skill set or that level of judicial experience.”
Judge Maguire also said, “Janene is not an advocate. She is a neutral judicial officer. And that’s precisely the sort of person who has the qualities we want in a Judge.”

I manned Robb Davis’ Farmers Market tent from 7:00 am to 9:00 am and then from 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm. Lots of Davis residents stopped by. Lots of visitors to Davis greeted with a warm “Welcome to Davis!” message.
One of the questions that came up a number of times was, “Will Robb move on to higher office shortly after we elect him?” In many cases it was posed as a rhetorical question, with the presumed answer (by the questioner) being that he will.
Each time that question came up it was a pleasure to be able to say, “Robb’s political career will both begin and end here in Davis. He wants to serve Davis, and will not ever be seeking a higher office beyond Davis City Council member.”
Some people were glad to accept that answer, but others, fueled by a distrust of government, replied, “How can you guarantee that?!?”
My reply was simple, “Robb is registered as a member of the Green Party, and has been for the 35 years since college. When was the last time you saw a Green Party candidate elected to a State of California office?” Each time that answer transformed the person’s distrustful skepticism into a smile of both understanding and belief. It was gratifying evidence that Robb Davis is all about rebuilding trust in Davis, one oter at a time.
