A Monday release from the Governor’s Office states, “Governor Schwarzenegger announced today the appointment of Daniel P. Maguire to a judgeship in the Yolo Superior Court. This appointment fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Thomas E. Warriner.”
It continues, “Since 2005, Mr. Maguire worked as a deputy legal affairs secretary in the Governor’s Office. He earned a Juris Doctorate degree from Harvard University Law School after completing his undergraduate work at Stanford University. He was admitted to The State Bar of California in December, 1997.”
According to the Governor’s Office release, Mr. Maguire is 43 and a resident of Davis. He has been a deputy legal affairs secretary for the Office of Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger since 2005. Previously, he was a solo practitioner of the law from 2001 to 2005. Maguire served as an associate attorney for Orrick, Herrington and Sutcliffe from 1997 to 2000 and Holme, Roberts and Owen from 1993 to 1997. He was a law clerk for the Honorable Andrew Kleinfeld, U.S. Court of Appeals, Ninth Circuit from 1992 to 1993.
The Governor’s Press Release reports that Mr. Maguire is a Republican, though some have said he is a moderate. The compensation for this position is $178,789.
Yolo County Presiding Judge Rosenberg said, “Governor Schwarzenegger has made a superb choice for the Yolo Superior Court. Dan Maguire has the talent, skills and background to be an exceptional Judge. We welcome this appointment.”
Mr. Maguire is due to be sworn in some time in early December, according to the Yolo County Court press release.
At this point we do not know a lot more than this about Mr. Maguire.

Hopefully he is aware of our dirty DA and will not be fooled with all the slick Reisig tricks to get convictions and win cases at the expense of the justice system.
@”RogerRabbit” moron, exactly how is the DA dirty? Sounds to me like you got caught doing something you weren’t supposed to be doing… enjoy your conviction there bud?
@PatLenzi -“Good Ol Boys Club?” Really? My understanding is that you ran for the DA position, got clobbered, left the office, and now you are spouting off due to sour grapes. If this club does exist, then prove it, don’t whine about about it. Shows a weak character, probably why you go t clobbered in the election…

Dan is a good guy. He has been active in the Inn of Court in Davis. He is bright and very capable, but not part of the “good ol’ boys’ club.”
This is good news for Yolo County.
This cannot be a bad thing!
