We have a new, clean look to the site, but offer the same hard-hitting local news articles.
The Vanguard is a non-profit news site. We aren’t driven by profits or motivated to report on sponsors. Learn more about us: here
The Vanguard leads in delivering local news – we broke the MRAP story a few weeks ago and it quickly became a national news story. We recently hosted a school board candidate’s forum which delivered a meaningful dialogue about the issues facing our schools and how the candidates will work to make them better. And on October 16th, the Vanguard will be hosting a panel discussion on the proposed Innovation Parks, starting at 6:30 pm at DMG Mori on 2nd Street. The event will be free to the public. More information later this week.
Some new features:
Want to submit an op-ed?: We have an open submission policy for articles of 600 words or more on subjects of local interest – send it here.
Know about a community event?: We now have a dedicated section for that – send it here.
Have something to say?: Submit a letter to the Vanguard, just as you would a traditional letter to the editor – send it here.
Make sure you check the Community Events/ Letters section each day.
The Vanguard continues to grow…
Our readership is averaging between 135,000 and 185,000 unique visits each month. That is more than 4,000 unique visits each day. And we have had even more during big stories like the MRAP or Nancy Peterson’s resignation, with between 8,000 and 10,000 unique visits.
Our advertising has grown over the last year – besides providing a valuable service to candidates and non-profit groups, we now feature services and community orgs like lawyers, insurance agents, real estate, schools, and much more.
Check out our ad rates here – we still believe they are the best you’ll find for your business. We get over 1 million page loads a month and our rates start at a very affordable $100 to $300 per month. That’s fractions of a penny per impression!
The Vanguard relies on support from people like you…
The financial obligations to maintain the web presence, provide upgrades like the new site and our growing need to add employees to cover the stories you care about most, means we need our valued readers and community supporters to consider how they might help keep this valuable resource sustainable.
If you are not a donor now, consider becoming one. Even $10 a month can be a tremendous help to our growing organization. If you are a current subscriber, please consider doubling your support. And if you are a periodic supporter, please consider making an automatic monthly recurring donation. To lend your support, please login here to make your tax deductible donation today or go to PayPal and send your contribution to info@davisvanguard.org.
The Vanguard is already an important voice in our community… and with your help, we can become so much more. With your support, we will be able to continue our mission and add to the Vanguard’s already important services. Please consider how you might become our partner in delivering even more valuable benefits to Davis in the coming months and years.
And thank you for your support thus far. These are exciting time for the Vanguard community!
