Registered Democrats Encouraged To Participate In Biennial Delegate Elections

(From Press Release) The California Democratic Party (CDP) and the Yolo County Democratic Party (YCDP) invite any registered Democrat in Yolo County who wishes to shape the future of the state Democratic Party to become a candidate for delegate in the party’s upcoming ADEM elections to be held in early January, 2015.

The ADEM process, in which California Democrats will select over a thousand delegates to the party’s state conventions for the 2015-2016 cycle, is open to any Democrat who declares his or her candidacy. The deadline to apply for a spot to run as a delegate is 5PM on Thursday, December 11, 2014.

Each of California’s 80 assembly districts elects 14 delegates — seven men and seven women. In Yolo County, these elections will take place January 10, 2015. Candidates must be registered as a Democrat on or before October 20, 2014, in the assembly district they wish to represent, and have cast a ballot in the November 2014 general election. In Yolo County, delegates will be elected in both the 7th District (including West Sacramento and surrounding areas) and the 4th District (encompassing the rest of the county). Potential candidates must submit a candidate application form, available online at http://www.cadem.org, before the deadline.

Potential candidates should be aware that it is a delegate’s responsibility to accommodate the time and expense required to participate in the yearly conventions that may take place in different areas of the state. Assembly district delegates will help shape the party platform, decide which candidates and ballot initiatives the party endorses, elect the party’s officers, and attend the annual state convention in 2015 and 2016.
