Senator Wolk Named Majority Whip

Senator Lois Wolk

WolkheadshotSenate President Pro Tem Kevin de Leon announced today that he selected Senator Lois Wolk (D-Davis) to serve as the Majority Whip and appointed her to chair the Senate Budget Subcommittee #2 on Resources, Environmental Protection, Energy and Transportation.

“As Chair of this budget subcommittee, I look forward to working with the Governor and legislative leadership on resources priorities, including implementation of the water bond,” said Wolk. “The current drought demonstrates the need to invest in reliable, climate-resilient water supplies to sustain our economy, communities and ecosystems. This is a critical job and one I take very seriously considering my lengthy history shaping California water policy.”

Approved by the voters last November, Proposition 1 — the Water Quality, Supply and Infrastructure Improvement Act of 2014 — is a $7.545 billion general obligation bond measure that will provide funding for needed investments as part of a statewide, comprehensive water plan for California.

In addition to implementing Proposition 1, the subcommittee oversees investments related to renewable energy, energy conservation, state parks, air quality, water supply, flood control, land conservation, toxic materials, recycling and waste, cap and trade expenditures, high-speed rail, and transportation.

Wolk was also re-appointed to the Senate Standing Committees on Agriculture; Energy, Utilities and Communications; Health; and Natural Resources and Water. Wolk will also serve on the Joint Legislative Budget Committee.

“Each of these committee assignments reflect my priorities for my last two years in office, noted Wolk. “I look forward to serving my constituents as their voice on these important committees.”
