Kickoff Fundraiser for Parcel Tax Renewal November 16

Delaine Eastin Hosts Kick-Off Fundraiser For “Yes For Our Students” Parcel Tax Renewal Measure

Yes for Our Students, the community campaign for the Davis parcel tax renewal to fund quality public education programs in Davis schools, announced today that former State Superintendent of Education Delaine Eastin will host a campaign kick-off party and fundraiser at her Davis home on Wednesday, Nov. 16, from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. at 4228 Dogwood Place.
“The children of Davis are going into the future buoyed by a community that understands that our children, our posterity, represent our most important legacy,” said Eastin. “Renewing the parcel tax helps the children of our town and helps every homeowner to have a higher valued house and every resident to have a safer community. This is a win, win, win.”

The parcel tax renewal campaign is a grassroots, community effort staffed by volunteers – parents, community members and teachers.

“Not only does the parcel tax enable us to offer programs that make Davis schools unique in our state, but the funds also provide, through the reading specialists, extra support for elementary students who are still learning the important basics of reading,” said Martha Beetley, reading specialist at North Davis Elementary and Yes for Our Students steering committee member. “The reading specialists’ programs give direct, individualized instruction to children so that they can access the grade-level materials and participate more fully in the curriculum. Reading well is the foundation for all subject matters for our K-12 students.”

“The Davis community has renewed an educational parcel tax since 1983. It is wonderful to live in a community that values education,” said Barbara Archer, parent leader and communications chair, Yes for Our Students. “My two fourth graders, taking elementary science and music for the first time this year, come home raving about these subjects every day. In addition, their library time has taught them research skills and encouraged a love of reading. At the secondary level, excellent programs made possible by the tax prepare our students for graduation. It’s important that these and other critical programs funded by our local parcel taxes continue for all of our Davis students.

Event sponsorships are available ($100 Honor Roll, $250 Advanced Placement, $500 Scholar). Admission to the event is $25. The event sponsorship deadline is Monday, Nov. 7.
