UCD-Event-SPONSORSEarlier this week, we announced that the UC Davis Child Family Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship has donated a spot at its highly regarded UC Entrepreneurship Academy to the Vanguard. The three-day course will be held from September 15 to 17, 2015.

On September 2, 2015, at the UC Davis Conference Center (across the quad from the Mondavi Center), the Vanguard will host its event “Forging a Knowledge Economy.” Thanks to a very generous donation from the Institute, the Vanguard has received a donation of one spot in the Academy, a value of  $1500!.

To pass this great opportunity along to one lucky Vanguard reader, we will be holding an auction at our 2nd of September event.  The starting bid on the spot in the upcoming Academy will be $200. Bidders must be in attendance to bid on the Academy. Tickets to the Vanguard event are $50 for the general public and $20 for students. But with the chance to attend the Academy at a significantly reduced cost from the going rate of $1500, what is a $50 ticket to the Vanguard event as compared to the opportunity to attend the Academy and potentially launch the next great idea?  This could be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to attend the Academy for someone in our community and could be the start of something great for a budding entrepreneur!

In addition, we will have other items to auction off.   At the June Jumpstart Davis event, Don Sherman, a founder of SizzlePix! was a featured speaker. He discussed how they have created the technology to turn photographs into spectacular 5K Ultra High Definition photos.

As some of you may know, this year I have taken up photography as a hobby, and so working with a new startup seemed like an intriguing concept. In collaboration with SizzlPix!, the Vanguard will be auctioning four of my original photos, with the proceeds going to continue funding for the Vanguard.

The photos came out spectacularly and are featured with my lovely wife Cecilia in the photo above. We have four different sizes. The smallest is the 18-inch photo taken at the corner of Pole Line and Covell in June at sunset of the spectacular sunflowers. Starting bid will be $199.

Next is a photo of a heron shot at a wildlife preserve in Florida this March. That is a 24-inch picture starting at $299.

The 30-inch photo is a spectacular rock face with the ocean and beach in the background at Montana de Oro near Los Osos. That will start at $399.

Finally, the biggest is the spectacular sunset I caught in early August, also at Montana de Oro, and that 36-inch picture will start at $499.

With the opportunity to win the grand prize, the Vanguard will also be auctioning some other items to make this fun for all in attendance.  We have four pieces of original photographic art and we are looking for any individual or company that may be willing to donate for the auction. These unique items could be hand-crafted pieces, wine, services, hotel stays, restaurant certificates, non-perishable food items or even a weekend at your family vacation home.

You have to be there to have a chance to win one of these amazing photos or the UC Entrepreneurship Academy. This is a new fund-raising aspect to our Vanguard events and we hope to see this grow over time. Most donations for the auction are tax-deductible (as allowed by law) and interested parties should contact the Vanguard at info@davisvanguard.org or (530) 400-2512 to make arrangements.

We thank you in advance for your consideration and support of the Vanguard in its mission to bring you a unique perspective on the news of Davis.
