Vanguard Court Watch Seeks Volunteers

Yolo County Courthouse - New

CourtThe Vanguard Court Watch is a local non-profit that monitors and reports on the Yolo County Court System. The Vanguard Court Watch is looking for 8 to 10 volunteers who can come into the court once or twice a week to monitor hearings in the Yolo County Courts during morning sessions from 8:30 to noon in Woodland.

Volunteers must have a passion for social justice and reliable transportation to the court. Anyone interested should email or call (530) 400-2512 to schedule a time to meet.

Volunteers will receive two training sessions. One training session will focus on the Vanguard Court Watch and the other training session is an in-court training. We ask that volunteers make at least a three-month commitment.

The Vanguard Court Watch also offers an internship for students, and anyone interested in applying can send an inquiry to the email listed above.

  1. Hi David,

Hope your dinner in West Sac went well. I enjoyed reading your speech re: wrongful convictions. Thank you.

Have you tried to recruit UC law students for this important volunteer work, and if so, what was the outcome? Might be good work for a (financially secure) student taking a gap year after law school to figure out what kind of law she/he might like to practice?

The time I spent in Yolo & Solano Co. courtrooms was some of the most educational & enlightening hours of my entire life.

    Again, Thanks.

    1. There are different levels of participation now for the court watch program, law students might benefit from an internship but for this particular task, I don’t think so much.  I’m really looking for residents who have some time on their hands and have an interest in going to the court and seeing what is happening.
