Mariko YamadaToday, Mariko Yamada’s campaign for State Senate District 3 announced the endorsement of AFSCME Council 57. AFSCME Council 57 represents over 25,000 workers in schools and community colleges, transit agencies, public works and services, clinics and hospitals, and water and wastewater facilities across Northern California and the Central Valley.

AFSCME Council 57 President Cynthia McCabe said, “We’re proud to stand with Mariko Yamada because she has relentlessly, and consistently, stood shoulder to shoulder with working Californians. Mariko is the fighter middle class families need in our state government – and that’s why we’re endorsing her campaign for State Senate.”

AFSCME joins a number of powerful statewide organizations and leaders in supporting Yamada’s campaign for State Senate – including California Nurses Association, California League of Conservation Voters, California Federation of Teachers, California Association of Psychiatric Technicians, California Women’s List, Controller Betty Yee, Treasurer John Chiang, Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones, Congressman John Garamendi and hundreds of local elected officials and community leaders.

“I am proud to have earned AFSCME’s endorsement,” said Mariko Yamada. “Throughout my career – as a social worker and public servant – I fully understand that hardworking Californians deserve good-paying jobs, equal access to health care and a great education and fully-funded retirement benefits. These workers are the backbone of our state’s economy and quality of life.”

Yamada continued, “AFSCME members know that I will always take a stand for their priorities and will put the future of hardworking families ahead Sacramento’s ‘politics as usual.’ I look forward to working with AFSCME members to move our state forward – and to create greater opportunities for future generations.”
