This weekend at the 2016 California Democrats State Convention in San Jose, the California Democratic Party (CDP) officially endorsed Davis Mayor Dan Wolk for the 4th Assembly District. Wolk earned the endorsement after receiving the support of 87.5% of local party and grassroots leaders at the district endorsement caucus, and the unanimous approval of the full membership of the Democratic State Central Committee.
“I want to congratulate Dan Wolk for his official endorsement for Assembly by the California Democratic Party. The endorsement is a testament to Dan’s experience, his commitment to creating opportunity for all Californians and strong leadership on issues like public education, water, the environment and creating jobs,” said John Burton, Chairman of the California Democratic Party. “We are proud to endorse Dan for the Assembly and look forward to working with him to elect Democrats across the region.”
The endorsement holds significant importance in the election for the 4th Assembly District, with four Democratic candidates for the June Primary Election. The District is strongly Democratic – about 45% of voters in the district are registered as Democrats and Democrats typically receive more than 60% of the vote. The endorsement also gives Wolk access to the Democratic Party’s grassroots infrastructure and resources around the District. Yolo County Supervisor Don Saylor and Winters Mayor Cecilia Aguiar-Curry also sought the endorsement.
Wolk has amassed an impressive list of endorsements from state and local leaders in every corner of the 4th Assembly District, including Congressman Mike Thompson, State Senator Mike McGuire and Assemblymember Bill Dodd. Wolk also has the endorsement of several major statewide organizations, including the California League of Conservation Voters (CLCV) and the California Teachers Association (CTA).
His local endorsements include more than 25 county officials, with every member of the Board of Supervisors in Napa and Solano Counties, Supervisor David Rabbitt in Sonoma County and Supervisors Jim Provenza and Oscar Villegas in Yolo County, as well as every Mayor in Napa County. A list of endorsements can be found at DanWolk.org.
Currently serving as Mayor, Wolk has been on the Davis City Council since 2011. He works as a Deputy County Counsel for Solano County, handling public finance, public contracting and water issues. He is also the founder of the Legal Clinic of Yolo County, a legal services provider for low-income families.
Assembly District 4 consists of Napa and Lake Counties, most of Yolo County, as well as portions of Sonoma, Solano and Colusa Counties.
