Vanguard Launches Yolo Leaks

Yolo-Leaks

A few years ago when the group WikiLeaks had gained prominence, the Vanguard had the idea of launching a local resource to allow people to anonymously and securely leak local information to the Vanguard and the public that could shine the light on local public official and agency conduct and misconduct.

However, at the time that proved to be overly ambitious financially and the idea was shelved.  But with the recent discussions locally regarding Chancellor Katehi and frequent anonymous source tips and leaks, we decided to revisit the issue.

Thanks to work of Uptown Studios, the project was well within our abilities.

The Davis Vanguard is a non-profit news organization that monitors and reports on local government in Yolo County and the Sacramento region. One of our goals is being able to report on important news and information. We are now launching Yolo Leaks – a way for sources to leak information to our journalists either by sending a message or files. The Vanguard will not require any identification and will not store source information.

For now this information will only be accessible to the Vanguard and its journalists. In time, this may evolve into a conduit for sharing documents and other information with the public.

So check it out for yourself: https://davisvanguard.org/yolo-leaks/

And observe the quick access we have provided:

So log on today and you can send us documents and messages anonymously and securely.

  1. So log on today and you can send us documents and messages anonymously and securely.

Aren’t “log on” and “anonymously” mutually exclusive?

  2. Very good. Following in the footsteps of Edward Snowden, a patriot who clearly should have won a Medal of Freedom instead of harassment and pursuit by the minions of Big Brother. May the Vanguard prove to be a valuable resource for those lonely light shiners trudging onward in the face of vast hordes of ravening dark slingers. Oink!

  3. David, with the launch of Yolo Leaks, isn’t it time the Vanguard revisited the “need” or at least justification for allowing people to post under any other than their actual name?
