In early 2010, we came across this case of a man stealing a package of shredded cheese, facing a life sentence under three strikes – after we covered it the Bee picked it up, then the NY Times and London Guardian. Eventually the man had a strike removed but still was sentenced to a nearly eight year sentence – thanks to our court watch program.
