Last week, Davis Media Access recorded a segment with Reverend Tim Malone, Sean Raycraft, and Diane Evans on the March for Justice. The program was hosted by the Vanguard’s David Greenwald.
A coalition of social justice groups in Davis has come together to call for a March for Justice on Friday, October 7, 2016.
A press release noted: “For organizing purposes, we are calling ourselves the Human Rights Network. We hope to make the network and the March as inclusive as possible including any group working for racial, social and economic justice. We especially hope that groups working to change systems that perpetuate injustice will join us.
“For example, among the systemic changes we hope to see are an end to the death penalty (addressed by Proposition 62 in the fall election) and an end to the school to prison pipeline (partially addressed by Proposition 57). We also seek programs that will help people move from homelessness to being housed and many more. We invite any person or group concerned about building a more just society to join us in making this event a successful demonstration of commitment to justice.”
The March will go from Davis to the State Capitol and end with a demonstration on the West Steps of the Capitol Building. The March is organized as a Justice Train and folks can join the march at any of three stations. The train will leave from Central Park in Davis (Station 1) at 8 am. The next station will be at the West Sacramento City Hall at 11 am. The next and final station is the West Steps of the State Capitol at noon where we will hold a Rally for Justice featuring speakers, music and spoken word artists.
