YOLO COUNTY PROGRESSIVES PRESS RELEASE
Progressive Labor Alliance Slate wins CADEM Assembly District 04 Election
Hundreds turned out to vote in the California Democratic Party Assembly District 04 (AD 04) election on Sunday January 8th which was held at the Davis Public Library and the IBEW Local 180 in Napa to select seven women and seven men to be Assembly District Delegates and to select an Executive Board Member. A record breaking number of candidates vied for positions. Assembly District 04 includes Lake and Napa counties, and portions of Yolo, Colusa, Sonoma, and Solano counties. Similar elections were held in the other 79 California State Assembly Districts.
All eleven members of the Progressive Labor Alliance (YPLA) slate were elected Delegates or Alternate Delegates. The Delegates are Gregory Adams, K. Kevyne Baar, Melissa Johnson-Camacho, Kristal Edward-Jones, Natalie Higley, Ava Kennedy, Karen Cunningham McNair, Christopher Myers, Sean Raycraft, and Desiree Rojas. Tucker Lance is an Alternate Delegate. They are committed to strengthening unions, getting money out of politics, tuition free public college, single payer health care, fair treatment of farm workers, disability access and inclusion in the political process, empowering tribal nations, criminal justice reform, environmental justice, ending costly wars, equal treatment of LGBT and immigrant communities and communities of color. They supported Senator Sanders in last year’s election and are members of the Yolo County Progressives. Derek Pell, also a Sanders supporter and Yolo County Progressives member was elected as a delegate. M. E. Gladis is the founder and current president of Yolo County Progressives which is committed to advancing social, racial, economic, and environmental justice.
Filling the other delegate positions were Dillan Horton, Donald Saylor, and Ruy Laredo. Marlene Bell, Cecilia Escamilla Greenwald and Gerald Phillips filled out the other Alternate delegate positions. Donald Saylor was elected Executive Board Representative.
The newly elected ADDs from all eighty Assembly Districts will comprise about one third of the total delegates at the California State Democratic Convention which will be held May 19th to May 21st in Sacramento. They will vote to elect party officials and regional directors and vote on resolutions, the party platform and official party endorsements. The other two thirds of the convention delegates are elected by County Central Committees, appointed by Democratic elected Officials and from several other sources delineated at CADEM.org.
Progressives prevailed throughout California in Sunday’s election and they now hold the majority of ADD positions in the California Democratic Party, prompting Jane O”Meara Sanders (Bernie Sanders wife) to tweet “Progressives swept CA Dem Party delegate elections this week. Huge turnouts up/down state led to impressive win! Thank you California!!”
