Dear Vanguard reader,
I have been reminded in the past several weeks why I started the Vanguard nearly 11 years ago. Like everything, it was in response to a crisis. Whether you were following the news in 2006 or whether you care about the issues that led to the foundation of the Vanguard – the underpinning remains the same today – we need a local news organization that can be independent, can investigate problems in our community, and report the truth no matter where it points.
I look back over the last 11 years with a great deal of pride – and yet I know we can do more – so much more if we had the resources.
This month we waged a spirited campaign for the funding to continue – and we have succeeded. Times are tough for non-profits and news outlets, but we were able to raise the money we needed to continue another two months.
But it’s still not enough. If nothing changes between now and then, we’ll be back doing a monthly fundraiser and asking for more money.
But there is another way. To sustain this work and help broaden our journalism, we need all our readers to become subscribers.
Subscribe Now – $10 a month (or more).
The value of the Vanguard is simple: we are offer objective reporting and hard hitting news and commentary.
We believe that our prime value is to:
- Shine a light on our local and regional public officials – promote transparency and accountability
- Hold those in power accountable
- Give a voice to those without one
- Provide the public with information that they can use to make informed decision
- Be accurate and acknowledge mistakes as they arise
If you support this mission, help us by becoming a subscriber to help sustain our journalism and our non-profit site that is independent and informative.
Join us today and you will receive our premium newsletter with news and commentary not available elsewhere.
We have closed our gap between in-coming revenue and outgoing expenditures to just $1500 a month – if just one-tenth of those who read this article will pledge $10 a month we can achieve sustainability.
Thank you.
