The Real Work of the Yolo County Public Defender’s Office

This November 4 (6 to 9 pm at the Davis Community Church) the Vanguard will host its 7th annual fundraiser. This year’s program, In Search of Gideon, honors the work of the Yolo County Public Defender’s office.

We have 56 sponsors to the event and while the early sponsorship window has passed you can still sponsor and be recognized at the event.
We have five levels of sponsorships:
- $5000 – Event Sponsor
- $1000 – Gideon Sponsor
- $500 – Social Justice Champion Sponsor
- $250 – Public Defender Sponsor
- $100 – Advocate Sponsor
Each sponsorship level comes with tickets, recognition on promotional materials and at the event, and for $1000 or more, advertising on the Vanguard.
Your contribution will help fund the Davis Vanguard and Vanguard Court Watch operations and make possible our very unique court watch program where interns monitor and report on the proceedings in Yolo County Court.
Speakers:
Tracie Olson, Yolo County Public Defender will give an introduction about public defense and the work of her office.
Andrea Pelochino, Deputy Public Defender will talk about the state of juvenile justice. Science has finally convinced the courts that brain development lags for youths. The youthful offender parole process is a direct result of the work.
Dan Hutchinson, Deputy Public Defender will discuss a recent murder trial in which he got an acquittal based on self-defense.
Monica Brushia, Deputy Public Defender will discuss an acquittal based on shaken baby syndrome.
Martha Sequeira, Deputy Public Defender will discuss gang cases.
