Seven Reasons Why You Should Come Tonight…

Today is the Day… if you aren’t plan to come or you haven’t bought tickets, here’s why you should…

I have to say this at the start, if this is about money, get the $20 ticket. We always need more money, that’s the reality of being a non-profit, but for once we are not absolutely in dire straits. So if $50 is too much, get the $20 and no one will ask any questions or even know.

Second, this is our one major fundraiser this year and the proceeds go to support our court watch program, our Sacramento expansion, and our day-to-day operations. So if you support our work, please buy a ticket and please come to the event.

Here is what tonight will look like.

First starting at 6:30, I will give a talk on the Picnic Day case, but I will also break some news and show a video of another serious police incident in Davis.

Amreet Sandu, president of NLG-Sacramento will give a few words. NLG is not only an event sponsor, they have partnered with the Vanguard and Cres Vellucci on the launch of the Sacramento Court Watch project.

Supervisor Don Saylor will then speak and introduce public defender Tracie Olson (Saylor last month led the charge to create more equity for the Public Defender’s office (https://davisvanguard.org/2017/09/saylor-pushes-equity-public-defenders-office/ )

Tracie Olson will talk about Gideon (the Supreme Court case that gave people are right to public defense and the state of public defense (Here is a 2013 article from Tracie Olson – The Promise of Gideon v. Wainwright – https://davisvanguard.org/2013/03/the-promise-of-gideon-v-wainwright/ )

Andrea Pelochino will talk about juvenile justice (Here’s commentary from the Marsh trial on juvenile brain development: https://davisvanguard.org/2014/09/my-view-marsh-and-juvenile-brain-development/ )

Dan Hutchinson will talk about his incredible murder acquittal (you can read about it here: https://davisvanguard.org/2017/03/stunning-verdict-sees-murder-suspect-acquitted-counts/)

Monica Brushia will talk about shaken baby sydnrome (and this case: https://davisvanguard.org/2014/05/stone-acquitted/ )

And Martha Sequueira will hammer gang cases (and perhaps this case: (https://davisvanguard.org/2017/02/judge-overturns-2016-lovett-conviction-based-new-court-decision/ )

Should be worth watching
