Vanguard Extends Subscription Drive, Raffle until January 8

Wide open space at Montgomery and Mace was removed at the request of the Catholic Church
A spectacular sunrise greeted Davis on Friday, the first day of winter as seen from a field along Montgomery Road, looking east across Mace.

Last weekend, the Vanguard wrapped up its December fund drive, raising $3000 in the month of December to fund immediate operations.

The Vanguard is non-profit but as we have grown in our operations, our operating budget has grown as well.  We now have staff costs, insurance, office space, and website and equipment costs on a monthly basis.  That has required the Vanguard to have periodic fundraisers – whether they be events like the November annual fundraiser or smaller monthly fund drives as we had in May and December to raise immediate money to pay our bills.

But in the past year, the Vanguard has tremendously closed the gap between its ongoing costs and ongoing revenues through its subscription program.  Right now, 80% of our current monthly costs are paid through monthly donations.  We would like to make that 100% – and actually we would like to make that 200% and then 400% so that we can pay our staff better and expand our operations.

Our monthly subscription program has been very successful in this capacity and in the next two weeks, we are going to push to expand it by another 20 people.

Right now, everyone who signs up as a $10 or more subscriber gets a premium Vanguard Morning Newsletter with exclusive commentary.  The exclusive commentary gives our donating members a sneak peek at key issues and insight into stories and upcoming events.

Right now through January 8, anyone who signs up now at $10 or more per month or who increases their current subscription by $10 or more per month enters into a raffle.  Our drawing will be on December 31, 2017.  You must remain a subscriber for at least 12 months.  (You may also sign up for the raffling by donating a flat $120 – but we greatly prefer the monthly donations as they provide us with the certainty of funding on an ongoing basis).

Please sign up today and help support the independent journalism of the Vanguard.
