The Vanguard News Group is an independent, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Our EIN number is 46-3013126
We are committed to transparency in every aspect in funding our organization. When we accept financial support, this does not mean that we endorse donors or their products, services, or opinions. We accept gifts, grants, and sponsorships from individuals, organizations, and foundations in order to help fund our general operational costs, our coverage of topics, and our two special programs: our court watch program and our incarcerated press. Our news judgments are made independently and are not influenced by our donors. We do not give our donors the rights to assign, review, or edit any content published by our paper.
We make public all revenue sources and donors who give $5,000 or more a year. While we do accept anonymous donations for general support, we only accept them when it is clear that sufficient safeguards have been put into place that the expenditure of that donation is made independently by our organization and in compliance with INN’s Membership Standards. As a news nonprofit, we avoid accepting charitable donations, sponsorships, and advertising from government entities, political parties, candidates seeking public office, and corporations. We will not accept donations from sources who, deemed by our board of directors, present a conflict of interest with our work or compromise our independence.
