More Than 120 Groups Urge Senate Democrats to Reject CORCA over Expanded DHS Powers
A coalition of over 120 criminal justice, immigration, and civil rights organizations, spearheaded by the Vera Institute of Justice, has formally urged Senate Democrats to reject the Combating Organized Retail Crime Act (CORCA). Critics contend the proposed legislation would significantly broaden the surveillance and data-collection authorities of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), thereby compromising consumer privacy protections.
