This is for everyone whether you agree, disagree. We’re going to have fun and make fun of ourselves and live it up. All public officials have been invited. There will be a no-host bar, music, good food. We are going to have speakers and an emcee. It’s all going to be light and funny. We’ll have a speaker list available shortly.
We also need volunteers who can help set up, serve the drinks, and clean up. If interested, contact me as soon as possible.
The cost is $20, just enough to pay for the food and rental. If there is money left over, it goes to charity. THIS IS NOT A FUNDRAISER.
You can either pay at the door or you can send a check payable to the People’s Vanguard of Davis to P.O. Box 4715, Davis, CA 95617-4715
We need to get a good head count, so RSVP as soon as possible. I look forward to meeting a lot of people who have read the blog but I have not met.
Celebrate with The Vanguard! I can hardly wait. It should be a VERY fun and interesting evening.
I can’t believe it’s already been a year. I’ve been a faithful reader of The Vanguard for some time and it’s the best publication (print or online) that has ever existed in the city of Davis.
Congratulations “Doug.”

I stumbled on to your site about late August of last year. While I have not always agreed with your point of view, it has never been boring.
Happy Birthday.

can’t be there, but congratulations, this is hard work, and you deserve a lot of respect for staying with it, and also publishing in a media that provides for instantaneous response (unlike a certain local purported “newspaper”)

Happy Birthday ‘PVD’ and congrats, Doug! I can’t say I’ve agreed with all of your postings either, but you’ve created an important forum for folks interested in local and regional issues. That’s democracy! Here’s to many more celebratory July 30s.

Doug Paul Davis’ hurculean efforts last Tuesday were a fitting “opening act” to a celebration of the Vanguard’s first birthday. The Vanguard’s mission is to offer Davis voters a means of talking to one another, getting a different perspective other than the Enterprise’s political narrative and helping creating that critical mass of common cause among voters that erupts into
unstoppable grassroots power. One year out, The Vanguard has gone a long way to fulfilling its promise.. Bravo David!

Doug and the People’s Vanguard of Davis are true community servants. The anniversary party will surely be fun and is well deserved.

Charlie Brown is rather a hypocritical choice for a speaker when his wife on behalf of his campaign asked Cindy Sheehan not to attend the 16th and Broadway anti-war rally where she was to be the advertised guest because at one time he had appeared with her and this would possibly cause “a by way of association” problem for his campaign at the last minute before the election. So much for free speech, I guess as long a an elected representative wasn’t smashing it no problem since he was only an candidate at the time. We had asked for our campaign contribution back and were assured it would be returned. We NEVER received it back. Apparently integrity and keeping promises are also not his strong suit. For a blog that wants to present an alternative forum for free speech and the exchange of ideas this is a horrible and hypocritical choice and really casts a shadow on the free speech integrity of the blog. It is one thing to have him, as anyone else, express his views and another to have a hypocrite as a keynote speaker.

Consistent with Samantha’s comment, more details about Charlie Brown can be found at: http://www.counterpunch.org/pearcy10312006.html.
Brown is a classic “spineless Dem” (if he really even is a Dem). He opposes immediate withdrawal of U.S. troops in Iraq, he supports a continued presence of U.S troops in Afghanistan (the other killing fields), he supports Pelosi’s choice to keep impeachment off the table, and he acts ashamed to mention his prior association with true patriots like Cindy Sheehan when people in the real peace movement would be proud to know her.
Not a good choice for a speaker, and definitely not a good choice for Congress: The last thing we need is another guarantee of business as usual.
