Vanguard Radio Tonight 6 PM on KDRT 101.5 FM

The Vanguard Radio Show Tonight on KDRT 101.5 FM from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM will have two guests: Waterford Mayor William Broderick-Villa and Waterford Unified School District Trustee Vicky Johnson.

Back in March, the Vanguard reported that Waterford was having problems stemming from the relationship between their Superintendent Howard Cohen, a former Principal at Davis High School, and Tahir Ahad and Total School Solutions.

On Thursday, the board will meet to determine whether or not to extend the contract of Superintendent Cohen on the eve of a new school board possibly being seated. Mayor Broderick-Villa, a math teacher and Board Member Johnson will update us on the situation in Waterford and discuss some of the background of what went on there.

There are amazing parallels to DJUSD and its relationship with Tahir Ahad and Total School Solutions.

  1. DPD, I really do appreciate that you are following this issue — Total Solutions, etc.

But for the sake of some journalistic integrity, could you contact and interview Mr. Ahad? or at least give him a chance to refuse an interview.

  5. Anon @ 8:18 am,

    You’re asking for the impossible.

DPD is wreckless and incapable of balance. Just read his schlock on the school district, the city, the fire department, the courts, Target, the election, how his wife was dissed, etc.

It’s as though the whole world were conspiring against our poor friend, David Greenwald. Davis and Yolo County are one vast conspiracy.

  9. I think DPD has generated legitimate community awareness where it didn’t exist before. The Enterprise helps some to raise the issues, but it is incomplete.

Two issues connected w/ Mr. Ahad that most concern me are that he missed an important deadline that cost the district millions at the time (later recovered), and the questionable practice of running his business while being employed by the district.

Those are very important issues that should be publicly discussed. But I also think Mr. Ahad deserves a chance to respond.

  13. In fairness to DPD, Mr. Ahad certainly had at least two chances to respond. First, like anyone he could have posted a response in the comment section. Second, he could have requested space on the front page of the blog. Unlike a newspaper there really is open access here that affords DPD a bit more liberties.

  17. Anonymous 11:51,

Funny how you think so little of DPD and the blog that you just can’t resist to read the blog. You can’t stay away.

Ye person of little self control. Ha, ha.

Get’em DPD!!! They can’t stand that you’re so good. We like you. It’s all that matters.

  21. Hey Anon 11:51 I agree with vanguardian — the best part about the blog world is that you can enter for free.

You clearly have access — use it.

If you don’t like the stuff that is here then either don’t read it or start your own blog and provide information that you find more acceptable.

  25. Congratulations on a great show DPD! I thoroughly enjoyed the discussion. Frankly, I found the similarities as to what is going on in Waterford eerily similar to what went on here. Supt. Cohen living in the Bay area, yet commuting two hours to Modesto? Funny how Cohen has to be absent a good deal of the time, just as Tahir Ahad was. Cohen moving items forward that are not on the agenda? Yet School Board members in the majority ignoring the corruption of process, while the minority has their hands tied in frustration. Cohen currying favor with certain big wigs in town, then trying to remove any opposition. Contracts that mushroom into exhorbitant costs. The list goes on, and it sounds all too familiar.

  29. “People’s Vanguard” is now missing the “People,” …too many lawyers and politicians taking up space here, I loved it when DPD took on Bob Dunning, but now, it’s all inside jokes and info:
time to drop the “People” from the “People’s Vanguard of Davis” — the underbelly’s still there but you, DPD, ain’t representin’ the “People,” any more, no how.

  33. Brian Orr,

DPD is representing us “the people.” When he brings forth and discusses issues that are not being discussed in the local newspaper, or issues being swept under the rug by council and other government bodies.

    That IS the PEOPLE.

Keep up the great work DPD!!! We need you in the Davis and Yolo Community. Congratulations on Year No. 2!

  37. I finally finished listening to the podcast. I liked this.

I wonder if there are any other school districts out there who have had equivalent experiences with TSS. Is this just a couple of unscrupulous individuals, or is this a systematic problem w/ TSS?
