On Sunday, September 22, 2013 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the West Sacramento Library located at 1212 Merkley Avenue in West Sacramento, the Vanguard Court Watch Council of Yolo County (VCWCYC) is inviting the public to come forward to express their concerns about the judicial system, provide testimony. Newly hired West Sacramento Police Chief Tom McDonald will be present to community concerns and provide information to the public.
“At our previous meeting in June, we had a good discussion with a member of the West Sacramento police department,” said Executive Director David Greenwald. “We recognized at that time there is a need for improved communications between segments of the community and the police.”
“I met with Chief McDonald shortly after his hire and he seems committed to improving relations with the community,” Greenwald added.
The Council will take public comment, testimony from invited speakers, and then deliberate in closed session to determine our course of action. The Court Watch Council is comprised of twelve members including eight from Woodland, Davis, and West Sacramento including Bernita Toney, Diane Evans, Teresa Williams, Lynn Rose-Jimenez, Melanie Carlton, Patty Zloczewski, Frank Gonzalez, Joan Branin, Anthony Palik, Cruz Reynoso, and James Hernandez.
The Vanguard Court Watch is a non-profit organization that researches and reports on legal issues in Yolo County. The Vanguard Court Watch was founded in 2010 and monitors the court system for common flaws and policies that might lead to wrongful convictions or lengthy sentences that are not proportionate with the crimes committed and often end up costing the County and taxpayers additional monies.
The Vanguard Court Watch Council will holds public meetings every fourth Sunday of the month at various locations in Yolo County to allow the public to come forward and share their stories and experiences.
