Mariko Yamada earns the support of CFT, representing over 120,000 educational employees
Mariko Yamada, candidate for California State Senate District 3, announced today the endorsement of the California Federation of Teachers (CFT), which represents over 120,000 educational employees from 135 local unions – from Head Start to the University of California.
Yamada said of CFT’s endorsement, “With seven educators in my family, I am truly honored by CFT’s support. We share a deep commitment to rigorous education standards, fully funding our schools so that students have access to the best education possible and ensuring underserved communities have the resources they need to succeed and thrive.”
CFT joins a growing coalition of statewide organizations, Democratic groups and California legislators up and down the state who are standing strong for Mariko Yamada’s campaign for State Senate.
Yamada has already won the endorsements of the California Nurses Association, California Asian Pacific Islander Legislative Caucus, California Democratic Legislative Women’s Caucus, California Women’s List, California Association of Psychiatric Technicians, Congressman John Garamendi, Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey (ret.), CA State Controller Betty Yee, State Treasurer John Chiang, State Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones, former State Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg and scores of local elected officials and community leaders.

Mariko Yamada represented the 8th Assembly District and the 4th Assembly District from 2008 – 2014, which includes most of State Senate District 3. During that time, Yamada was known as an outspoken advocate for the protection of agriculture and water resources, veterans, vulnerable elders, the mentally ill and persons with disabilities and their caregivers throughout the state. She has been a consistent and insistent voice on the preservation of prime farmland and water resources. She also served as a Yolo County Supervisor from 2003 – 2008.
State Senate, District 3 includes Solano and Napa Counties and portions of Contra Costa, Sacramento, Sonoma and Yolo Counties.
