The school board has now recessed from open session after hearing a number of speakers including volleyball players, spouses of the current interim coaches and former football coach Dave Whitmire.
Nancy Peterson was not in attendance and none of the public spoke on her behalf.
Board President Gina Daleiden said that in closed session they would hear from Julie Crawford, the employee making the appeal and then deliberate for as long as necessary. She told the audience she was estimating about two hours. The board adjourned around 6:25.

Mainly they read statements from the coaches in support of Julie Crawford.
It is now 8:50, no sign of the board after 2 hours 25 minutes

I wouldn’t count on it now three hours into deliberations.
Wanna bet? IMO the board doesn’t have the backbone to not reinstate her, they’ll take the path of least resistance. But we’ll soon see……

I was never clear on this, did Coach Crawford get to read the 72-page report before today? That’s a lot to rebut.

Correct – she will not be reinstated. She can reapply for the fall.

A political decision with political consequences. Crawford is out for a year and can re-apply but only if there is an opening. Yet the fall out will be long lasting.
They can now claim that their $22,000 wasn’t wasted, even though it was.
They supported their district administration even though they had to throw Crawford under the bus to do so.
I wonder if the interim coaches will remain? Especially the one who said he was just there until Crawford gets her job back.
What will Crawford do? Will she sue? Will she leave? Will she suck it up and reapply next year. I hope she does but would not be surprised if she leaves. After all the harassment she has suffered to have the board treat her like this its shameful. Who would blame her if she left.
I was honestly on the fence about who to vote for city council. How do you say Mayor Davis of Davis. I could be wrong on that outcome but I personally will not be voting for Sheila in June.
Its good to know that there will be four new board members after November.
Teacher morale will suffer badly. The community will remain divided. The school board and district administration has lost its moral authority to lead. Receipts to the the Davis Schools Foundation and the Blue and White Foundation will likely decline. The next parcel tax may even fail.
This is a disaster for the schools and the kids. They blew it.

Not true. Sheila Allen and Gina Daleiden told me she can reapply immediately.

I agree with all your assessments above, fremontia. If it were 4-0, and without Daleidon’s comment, we outsiders could surmise there was strong enough evidence that they had to uphold the district’s decision. But it really sounds like it was purely political. This leaves such a bad taste.

In the end I do not see Davis’s leadership as very progressive. In this situation, decisions were made to protect the administrative image of the board and to justify $22 thousand dollars spent by one of its members. The results are a fractured community. We were not restored. This outcome does not reduce or prevent recidivism. Everybody loss when all could have been healed through restorative justice. I am hoping the seeds for a healing justice are being planted. I hope our desire for social justice is as innovative as our desire for a carbon neutral community.
One thing they did talk about at the end of the meeting was looking into new conflict resolution tools including restorative justice.
