In Search of Gideon…
The Real Work of the Yolo County Public Defender’s Office

Saturday, November 4, 2017 -6 pm to 9 pm

This November 4 (6 to 9 pm at the Davis Community Church) the Vanguard will host its 7th annual fundraiser.  This year’s program, In Search of Gideon, honors the work of the Yolo County Public Defender’s office.

Between now and the end of August, our goal is to secure 100 sponsorships for this event.

We have five levels of sponsorships:

  • $5000 – Event Sponsor
  • $1000 – Gideon Sponsor
  • $500 – Social Justice Champion Sponsor
  • $250 – Public Defender Sponsor
  • $100 – Advocate Sponsor

Each sponsorship level comes with tickets, recognition on promotional materials and at the event, and for $1000 or more, advertising on the Vanguard.

Your contribution will help fund the Davis Vanguard and Vanguard Court Watch operations and make possible our very unique court watch program where interns monitor and report on the proceedings in Yolo County Court.

Speakers:

Tracie Olson, Yolo County Public Defender will give an introduction about public defense and the work of her office.

Andrea Pelochino, Deputy Public Defender will talk about the state of juvenile justice. Science has finally convinced the courts that brain development lags for youths. The youthful offender parole process is a direct result of the work.

Dan Hutchinson, Deputy Public Defender will discuss a recent murder trial in which he got an acquittal based on self-defense.

Monica Brushia, Deputy Public Defender will discuss an acquittal based on shaken baby syndrome.

Martha Sequeira, Deputy Public Defender will discuss gang cases.

Additional Speakers: There may be several other Yolo County Deputy public defenders presenting work on their cases on a variety of issues including gangs, marijuana, mental health court and other criminal justice reforms.

The deadline for sponsorships is August 31.
