As the city begins to make decisions on community oversight of the Davis Police Department, a public forum is being planned to explore a number of questions. Hosted by the Davis Phoenix Coalition and the Davis Vanguard, the forum will run from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Oct. 9, at the Davis Community Church Fellowship Hall, 421 D St.
What would the Picnic Day incident have been like if we had had a civilian oversight board? Do you have questions about what this might look like for future incidents? How does restorative justice fit into this model?
Shelby Moffatt, a former Sacramento police officer and now a member of Sacramento State’s Criminal Justice Division faculty, will speak at the forum, along with other panelists. Moffatt established a scholars-to-officers program at Sac State.
Admission is free and light refreshments will be available.
Speakers on the police oversight panel:
Shelby Moffatt, Sacramento State Faculty
Darren Pytel, Davis Police Chief
Speakers on the restorative justice panel:
Lisa Rea, President, Restorative Justice International
Orit Kahlman, Yolo Conflict Resolution Center
