Guest Commentary: An Evening with Stormy Daniels

Stormy Daniels during her 60 Minutes Appearance

By Kristine Mietzner

Stormy Daniels burst on stage to the sounds of “American Woman” at her Rancho Cordova show at Gold Club Centerfolds. What was I doing there? The chance to see a woman who stood up to Donald Trump had piqued my interest to the point that I bought tickets to the show. In this era, the United States is a theater that includes a porn actor and movie director who allegedly had an affair with Donald Trump. I just couldn’t resist.

It wasn’t hard to convince my male friend to accompany me. We had arrived early to secure good seats. The large venue had a stage with a couple of highly-polished brass poles. A dozen upholstered chairs lined the edge of the stage and others surrounded small circular tables. A hostess had directed us toward a good viewing area. Stormy would perform in an hour.

While we waited, a series of naked dancers performed. Besides the on-stage entertainment, the off-stage action was intense. Working the room were about 20 college-age women dressed in thongs, string-like bras, and high-heeled platform shoes. A woman would sit next to a solo man, touch him on the shoulder or leg, and appear to listen attentively to whatever he had to say.

Now and then a dancer and man stood up and strolled toward the hallway with a red neon sign indicating the entrance to the “Platinum Room.”  I peered down the hall and discovered an ATM machine; a convenience for someone who might need last minute cash on his visit to this mystery room with a nearly naked woman.

The middle-aged general manager who wore black tailored pants and a black and white checked blazer visited our table. My friend asked her to explain the entryway sign that indicated the regular dancers don’t get paid by the club. The women, she said, are independent contractors who run their own businesses; the women pay the club to work there, not the other way around. Days later I considered whether the regular dancers made the equivalent of minimum wage and whether they had health insurance.

But that evening, Stormy Daniels held our attention.  Moments after her entrance, Daniels whipped off her full-length sequined red, white, and blue cape to reveal a star-studded Wonder Woman type bra. Blue and red lights flashed.

After a few more seconds passed, her top and the blue thong slid off.  Piece by piece, the costume went missing. Stormy caressed one pole, strutted across the stage, and climbed up and down the other one.

She did acrobatics, got down low on the stage, rolled this way and that, face-up and facedown, and waved her tail. Finally, she raised a plastic bottle over her head and squeezed a pink liquid down her body.

As she crawled to the edge of the stage, men and women drew closer—a scene similar to what had we seen with the local dancers. She wagged her breasts on men’s faces. Guests plastered bills to her wet skin. The show was short, but I’m not complaining. Nothing about Stormy Daniels was left to the imagination. Although she didn’t say a word on stage, she told her story in her recently published book, Full Disclosure.

I admire her tenacity in winning the right to talk about Donald Trump, fighting and gaining release from a non-disclosure agreement. Her battle contributed to public discussion and debate about that type of contract.

After the show, we talked to one of the couples in our age bracket — the over-50 crowd. The wife said they had come to the show to view a newsmaker who won’t be forgotten soon.  Those were my thoughts exactly.

Like many people, I tend to judge others by their actions and myself by my intentions. Without question, some of the ticket holders came to see Stormy Daniels in the buff, but others, like me, were there out of wonderment over a woman who stood up to power. My curiosity was satisfied. After all, there was no mystery here. On stage and in her book, Stormy Daniels exposed a great deal. And for 40 dollars, I bought a glimpse of history.

  1. I swear I clicked on the Vanguard this morning but it looks like I got the Enquirer.

I guess it’s true, the Vanguard really will post any articles that’s sent to them.

  2. “Days later I considered whether the regular dancers made the equivalent of minimum wage and whether they had health insurance”

If they are attractive and are working there they are making money as attractive women have numerous employment options.

  3. I’ve gotta say, my reaction was similar to Keith’s. Given the description below, I don’t understand the reason for publishing this commentary, the content of which is, literally, only skin deep.

“The Vanguard provides the Davis Community with incisive in-depth coverage of local government on a wide variety of issues. Since 2006, The Vanguard has provided Davis and Yolo County with some of the best groundbreaking news coverage on local government and policy issues affecting our city, our schools, the county, and the Sacramento Region.”

  4. While I disagree with the viewpoint and agree with EG/KO about the shallowness of the articles content (and subject), this is one of the best WRITTEN and clearest articles the Vanguard has published.  Agree or not,

On stage and in her book, Stormy Daniels exposed a great deal. And for 40 dollars, I bought a glimpse of history.

    . . . that’s some pretty damn good prose.

  5. So now strippers and strip clubs have been embraced by the moral left?

Let me try to educate the over-educated on the topic of branding.  Fawning over the new weapons of your political enemies that were just the previous day guilty of anti-feminism crimes for objectifying women as sex objects…  makes your political brand look… desperate, unreliable, irrational and unstable.

It proves a meme out there… if is was not for double-standards the modern Democrats would have no standards.

A more brand-strengthening story for modern leftism would have been to focus on the questions about the actual economics of the profession.  Are these women compensated well enough to care for themselves and their children (I assume many of them are single-mothers).

But a story of a trip to see a stripper as a “political hero” who’s only obvious motivation is to sell herself in any way possible to fatten her bank account…  it makes a person wonder if the devil himself could become the darling of leftists thinking it might help their political prospects.

    1. Alternative newspapers have been primarily supported by ads for sex services until recent times. It seems that cannabis is now the primary revenue stream for the News & Review.

“So now strippers and strip clubs have been embraced by the moral left”

    2. Apparently the irony of Jeff’s comment falls to me to point out.  The moral left is not the ones who have sold out here.  The right has embraced the man who had sex with the stripper in violation of his oath to his wife.  It is they who have sold out here – thoroughly.  What a hypocrite you are to suggest otherwise.

      1. The right has embraced the man who had sex with the stripper in violation of his oath to his wife.

And what has the “left” embraced if they elect GAVIN, who not only broke his oath to his wife, but to his best friend?

        1. Alan:  Allow me to explain –

          Gavin = good

          Trump = bad

And, if one identifies as liberal/progressive, that automatically qualifies you as being kind, empathetic, non-discriminatory, and open-minded – including toward those whose views don’t match your own.  (Not like those other a-holes, who sometimes argue on here.)

Or, is it the other way around?  (I forget.)

        2. who not only broke his oath to his wife, who not only broke his oath to his wife,

Newsom and his wife had filed for divorce when he had his affair. Trump has been accused of serial sexual assault before, during, and after his marriages, including assault of his own first wife. So they’re not exactly comparable.
Having said all that, I think he’s a dweeb and I’m not thrilled about him becoming governor. Maybe I’ll just write in Stormy Daniels.

        3. Jim makes a good point, nice hair can and often does win elections.

democrats are going to have to hold their noses in order to vote for Gavin Newsom.

        4. Trump voters have different standards regarding hair.

From one of my favorite songs:

When we walk into a bar
People think she’s a movie star
Women smirk but the men just stare
Yea, that’s my baby with the big top hair

        5. Is there any consensus regarding what’s going on with Trump’s hair? And, did it hurt or help his campaign?

It had nothing to do with Trump’s hair, it was all about Hillary.

  6. This is a great article to comment on as it’s lack of focus make claims of being “off topic” somewhat specious.

Note that a certain senate candidate was declared a “bad person” for hitting on 16 year old girls while in his 30’s. Harvey Milk is well know for sodomizing at least one 16 year year old and likely many more when he was 33.  Yet it is hard to go a single block in SF without running into something named for Milk.

Interestingly the SF School Board has announced they will no longer observe the POA at the beginnings of meeting but instead will quote inspirational writers like Harvey Milk. So the school board has determined that the POA is bad but the writings of a pedophile is good.

    1. Jim:  “This is a great article to comment on as it’s lack of focus make claims of being “off topic” somewhat specious.”

I was thinking the same thing, and was thinking of taking it even further off-topic.  I seriously suggest loosening the standards, for this one.

By the way, this is probably about the closest that Rancho Cordova will ever get, regarding its own 15 minutes of fame. Truly a place where there is no “there”, there (to cite/paraphrase Gertrude Stein). Except for the occasional murder, which recently occurred again:

      https://sacramento.cbslocal.com/2018/10/13/rancho-cordova-fatal-shooting/

    1. I’m going to plead “guilty”, regarding my views of Davis (compared to other nearby communities such as Rancho Cordova).  (While simultaneously making fun of the elitism, at times.  I do see the contradiction, and you make a valid point.)

  7. When I saw the title and the pic to this article I figured it was a discussion event that Stormy Daniels appeared at.  Little did I know it would be an article about a night of watching a burlesque show.
