Educators Unite Behind Dan Wolk for Assembly

California State Capitol

teacherEducators from around the region and state are uniting behind Davis Mayor Dan Wolk’s campaign for Assembly, adding to his growing momentum. Today, both the California Teachers Association (CTA) and California School Employees Association (CSEA) announced their endorsement of Wolk. He had previously received the support of the California Federation of Teachers (CFT).

These educators cited Wolk’s desire to reinvest in California’s schools and fully fund public education as major reasons for their endorsements. Wolk is the father of two young daughters and has promised to make education a top priority in the Assembly.

“California’s educators are proud to support Dan Wolk for Assembly because he will make public schools a top priority,” said Cathy Haskell, a high school math teacher in Davis. “Dan has an outstanding record of standing up for our schools, our students and our educators and in the Assembly he will work to reinvest in our schools, provide universal preschool and make college more affordable.”

Wolk is endorsed by a number of important education leaders, including State Superintendent of Schools Tom Torlakson, Napa County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Barbara Nemko and Solano County Superintendent of Schools Jay Speck. He also has the support of more than a dozen local school board members and education leaders from around the 4th Assembly District, among the more than 90 state and local elected leaders who have already endorsed Wolk.

Founded in 1863, the California Teachers Association has become one of the strongest advocates for educators in the country. CTA includes teachers, counselors, school librarians, social workers, psychologists, and nurses. These educators in the K-12 school system are joined by community college faculty, California State University faculty, and education support professionals to make CTA the most inclusive and most powerful voice of educators in the state.

The California School Employees Association is the largest classified school employees union in the United States, representing more than 215,000 school support staff throughout California. CSEA members perform a wide range of essential work in our public schools and community colleges, including security, food services, office and clerical work, school maintenance and operations, transportation, academic assistance and paraeducator services, library and media assistance, computer services and more.

Currently serving as Mayor, Wolk has been on the Davis City Council since 2011. He works as a Deputy County Counsel for Solano County, handling public finance, public contracting and water issues. He is also the founder of the Legal Clinic of Yolo County, a legal services provider for low-income families.

Assembly District 4 consists of Napa and Lake Counties, most of Yolo County, as well as portions of Sonoma, Solano and Colusa Counties.
