Davis Enterprise and Sacramento Bee Endorse Sunder

Families for Madhavi Sunder for School Board 2014 is pleased to announce endorsements from the Davis Enterprise and the Sacramento Bee for Madhavi’s campaign for Davis School Board.

The Enterprise describes Madhavi as a “teacher at heart, a professor of law at UC Davis who knows how a great classroom functions.” It cites her effort to visit “all 20 school sites in the Davis district to talk with teachers, administrators, staff members and students about what’s working and what’s not on our campuses.” The paper notes that Madhavi brings energy and an enthusiastic group of young parents “who are relatively new to politics … but who are contributing fresh ideas” to our district.

The Enterprise observes Madhavi’s passion about “meeting each child’s needs through further class size reductions, smaller learning communities, support for teachers through creative collaborative programs and a focus on STEAM — the traditional STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and math) plus the arts.” It declares, “Sunder wants a school district that prepares each student for success in college and the working world.”

The Sacramento Bee lauds Madhavi’s “positive energy and broad community connections, particularly to UC Davis, which she correctly views as an underutilized resource.” The paper cites her past leadership in the district: “Sunder has been involved in the community since 2005, when she led a campaign to name an elementary school for civil rights hero Fred Korematsu.”

Madhavi, who has just concluded her Schools Tour, has also been writing weekly columns for the Davis Vanguard to share some of her views on educational topics, ranging from the achievement gap to arts and music education to technology education and school climate. Her columns are collected here
