It’s that time again, Vanguard Needs Your Support – Still Need $800 This Week

In December, we did two things. We raised short-term money for a matching donation and we expanded our base of subscribers.

Both of these fundraising efforts are critically important. The short-term money that we raised enabled us to pay our bills. The ongoing subscriber money enables us to have more certainty about future funds.

We had some hiccups with the site in the past few weeks that we need to pay for, and we have ongoing obligations.

So we would first like to thank all of those who gave donations and became subscribers in 2014.

We have two new goals. First, we need to raise $1500 in the next two weeks to meet current obligations. Second, we need to add to our subscriber base by 40 by the end of February to help ensure that we will continue to be able to operate.

Once again, all we ask is that our readers give what they can. $10 a month is not that much, but it ensures us that we can continue to operate.

To help out, please go to our secure donation site: https://secure.yourpatriot.com/ou/dpd/friends_of_the_vanguard/donate.aspx

Please be sure to click the “recurring” contribution at the bottom right to become a subscriber.

You can also become a subscriber by mailing a check payable to: Davis Vanguard, PO Box 4715, Davis, CA 95617. $120 a year makes you a subscriber. You can also do an annual recurring payment of $100 by going to the website and become a subscriber that way.

You can also make a one-time payment starting at $120 to become a subscriber. You can do so either by credit card at the previous link or by mailing a check to Davis Vanguard, PO Box 4715, Davis, CA 95617[/callout]

Thanks and we look forward to serving you and the Davis Community in 2015.

  1. Ok… here’s the ‘deal’ David… you’ve said a $120/year assessment for the City parcel tax is not likely to happen.  You are asking for $120/yr., to fund the Vanguard (and, let’s be honest, you)  You appear to oppose a $120/year parcel tax to go to fully fund the City’s backlog of retiree medical, street maintenance, and other deferred maintenance.

If you publicly support, and if it is passed, a City parcel tax of $120/year to retire the City’s unfunded liabilities, I will subscribe at the same level.  Otherwise, nada.

Take the above paragraph, make it $150/yr., and I will match that contribution to the Vanguard.  This is a limited time offer.

I make a good faith offer of $150 (single payment) in next 3 weeks, IF you so commit in that time frame.  Take it, or leave it.

    1. Ok… you’ve chosen to repeat my “take it of leave it” challenge, without addressing your side of the challenge.  Fine.  We all know you can’t appear to be “bought”.  Tonight, I’ll write my one-time check ($150), and mail it in the morning.  Consider it a Lenten gift.  Don’t expect other donations from this quarter.

  2. You are not truly journalists.  You operate at the whim of your advertisers… especially attorneys.  You are both a fraud and a disgrace to the art of journalism.

    1. Damn… must be getting denser in my “mature” years.  Hadn’t thought of the “attorney advertiser” connection.  Figured that many of the “news” articles were meant to stir up “readership”, to set ‘rates’, but honestly never thought of that correlation.  Gotta think some more about that insight.
