Dear readers,
We believe that the Vanguard serves a vital function in our community. In order to continue to expand and support our community however, we need to be able to pay the bills. We have monthly costs in terms of infrastructure, software, services, and personnel.
One of the best ways that we can be sure to pay our bills is by having people become ongoing subscribes with recurring monthly payments.
Here are ten reasons you should become a Vanguard Subscriber today:
- The Vanguard plays a critical role in bringing important community issues to light.
- For the cost of $10 a month, a subscription is only the cost of a meal. It’s just like subscribing to a newspaper. You pay for your newspaper, you can donate to the Vanguard to help out a community-based non-profit.
- Recently we had a reader-submitted article on food-sharing. The story got picked up byCBS13 in Sacramento and this week by the Sacramento Bee.
- Last August, the Vanguard broke the story on MRAP. We published the story at 5 am. By noon the story was run in the Bee and, shortly thereafter, in papers like the New York Times.
- Vital discussion: The Vanguard provides the community with a public space to debate and discuss issues. As the Bee noted in their recent article on the food sharing, “The idea has already spawned lively debate in community websites such as People’s Vanguard of Davis…”
- Reader contributions: Important information gets to the public through these discussions. At the recent discussion of Paso Fino one of the public commenters noted Don Shor’s letter on the impact of the development on trees.
- The Vanguard launched a brand new site that looks great and we will be doing monthly upgrades, but those upgrades cost money.
- The Vanguard is a free publication where anyone can read or comment on community issues.
- The Vanguard is a non-profit and relies on support from its readers to pay the bills.
- The Vanguard is growing in readership, size, and expense.
- Just for fun one more: we’ve been signing up many new guest columnists to bring a greater diversity of viewpoints and issues to the Vanguard.
Once again, all we ask is that our readers give what they can. $10 a month is not that much, but it ensures us that we can continue to operate.
