Nourish Seniors: Yolo Food Bank’s Partnership with Meals on Wheels

by Micahel Bisch

Senior citizens are among our most vulnerable Yolo County residents, and too often, they have limited access to nutritious foods and meals they need to stay healthy as they age.  Yolo Food Bank and Meals on Wheels Yolo County have a long-term partnership to serve this community.

Meals on Wheels provides a daily weekday meal to seniors, providing not only a freshly-made hot meal, but also socialization and a safety check from trained volunteer delivery drivers.  Meals on Wheels’ partnership with Yolo Food Bank allows for a discounted rate on purchasing many of the raw food materials critical to these meals, expanding the variety of local seniors’ diets.

Thanks to the Yolo Food Bank and Meals on Wheels’ collaboration, we have prioritized basic needs, healthy eating, and disease prevention and management for the senior citizens who share our neighborhoods.

You can keep this partnership healthy by making pre-scheduled donations now to Big Day of Giving in support of both organizations: Yolo Food Bank at bit.ly/BDOGYFB2019 and Meals on Wheels Yolo County at bigdayofgiving.org/MOWyolo.  Our Yolo County seniors can be more vibrant and less vulnerable with your commitment!
