The Vanguard Launches Anew

Vanguard_-_VIt is with great pleasure, that we launch the Davis Vanguard Version 3.0, ten days after the last version was suspended by Hostgator.  We want to thank the great work of Ron Garcia and his team at Smackwagon Design for their unexpected rush job, we were in the process of getting started with the new site for a January launch and suddenly had to get it on ASAP.

They stepped up – big time.  Obviously this is still a work in progress.  We will be tweaking the site features and hopefully launching an innovative new commenting system.

Please enjoy the site, look around, leave comments on suggestions or bugs.  Hopefully these will be fixed in the next few days.

But for now, we are back online.

We do still need help.  We would like to thank the many people who helped and contributed as we have raised $3000 in the time since the site went down.  We need at least one more $1000.

You can donate one of three ways.

First on our secure server through Patriot.  Second, by going to Pay Pal and enter: info@davisvanguard.org.

Finally, you can send a check to: Davis Vanguard, P.O. Box 4715, Davis, CA, 95616.

Thanks to all of the hard work and generosity our readers and your understanding during these difficult times.

  1. VERY IMPORTANT: we killed all the user names to get rid of the spam. So you have to re-register. Everything will like change in a few days. So you may have to do it twice.

  2. 1. Does the public get to learn what happened to the old site, why it was offline for a week or more. and why this site is online in a state of quasi-functionality?

    2. Comment: Grievously poor design – difficult to read, difficult to navigate, comments with multiple reply levels devolve into a column of single words, white type on black background is less legible, background watermark adds nothing but confusion, comments separated from the text of the article, need I add et cetera?

    3. This site is about the written word. Simple black on white text with simple straight forward organization and navigation would surely be appreciated by me and, I imagine, many others.

I really appreciate the content of this site and all the work you put into it, Mr. Greenwald, I hope it can become more user friendly.

    1. WDF the code for this site isn’t BB code. In the following explanation the symbol [ needs to be replaced with the “left caret” symbol you get with [shift] and the comma key. The symbol ] needs to be replaced with the “right caret” symbol you get with [shift] and the period key. Hope this helps.

To post an image you precede the url with [a href=” Then you follow the url with a closing ] followed by a [/a]

If you need to manage the size of the image you can use commands like [img class=” wp-image-13035 alignleft” style=”margin: 5px 10px;” alt=”wallet” src=”https://davisvanguard.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/wallet.jpg” width=”400″ /]

David is going to need to either provide a “How To” section or include buttons like the old site had. We just have to be patient. I’m sure that is coming.

      1. Trying to get the comment system set up first and then will address the issue of coding. It’s worth noting: So it’s < > and html code that works.
