California Police Search and Arrest People Perceived as Transgender at Higher Rates, Study Finds
New research from the Williams Institute at UCLA School of Law and the University of California, Irvine, indicates that individuals perceived by police as transgender in California are subjected to significantly higher rates of searches and arrests. This occurs despite law enforcement discovering contraband at nearly identical rates across perceived gender groups during encounters.
