(From Press Release) – More than 20 of the region’s top chefs will come together in one location to offer specially created dishes from food grown in Yolo County as part of the 2019 Yolo Land Trust’s “A Day in the Country.” Local farms, ranches, vineyards and breweries throughout the Sacramento Valley will also showcase their latest, and fan favorite items during the afternoon event that raises funds to conserve farmland, ranchland, open space and wildlife habitat in Yolo County.
A Day in the Country will be held Sunday, September 8th from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at River Garden Farms located at 41758 County Road 112 in Knights Landing.
“We are excited and pleased to announce River Garden Farms as the location of the 2019 A Day in the Country,” said Yolo Land Trust Executive Director, Michele Clark. “We applaud River Garden Farms for their stewardship and protection of the land for future generations. We invite the community to join us on this family-owned farm for an amazing tasting of food grown in Yolo County.”
River Garden Farms is focused on farming in partnership with wildlife and has become a leader in conservation efforts throughout Northern California. With agricultural land spanning 15,000 acres along the Sacramento River, River Garden Farms grows corn, walnuts, rice, alfalfa, sunflowers, safflower, and wheat while also providing habitat for fish and wildlife. From providing migrating bird habitat to growing fish food to placing shelters for juvenile salmon in the Sacramento River, River Garden Farms has taken a collaborative approach with conservation groups and federal and state wildlife agencies on land and water management. Family owned and operated since 1964, the Knights Landing farm is now directed by second and third generation owners.
“We are longtime farmers in Yolo County and believe strongly in the mission of the Yolo Land Trust. After attending A Day in the Country last year, we knew we wanted to offer our farm as a place where the community could come together,” said Roger Cornwell, general manager of River Garden Farms. “We look forward to welcoming all of the Yolo Land Trust’s supporters, chefs, winemakers, brewers and growers to our farm on September 8th.”
