Historic Hunger Strike in US Prisons Featured at UC Davis Law School

promo – the Strike

Last night we had a successful screening of the Strike – at UC Davis School of Law. We had nearly 100 people show up to watch the film that won the San Quentin Film Festival award depicting the true story of the largest hunger strike in US Prison History.

Thank you to Our Panel!

In 2013, over 30,000 incarcerated individuals across California’s prison system united in an historic protest against the inhumane practice of indefinite solitary confinement. From the notorious Pelican Bay State Prison, their movement sparked a seismic shift in prison policy and intensified the fight against mass incarceration.

After the screening we had a great conversation with the filmaker Lucas Guilkey, several of the strike organizers, and Professor Carter White, of UC Davis Law School.
