Immigrant Rights Coalition Demands ICE Accountability after Deadly Shootings
The Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA) and allied advocacy organizations formally called for independent investigations into U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) following two fatal shootings involving federal agents within a single week. The incidents, which included the deaths of Joan Sebastian Guerrero in Maine and Lorenzo Salgado Araujo in Houston, were characterized by CHIRLA Executive Director Angelica Salas as an “unacceptable escalation of violence” reflecting an “increasingly militarized” enforcement system.
