I am writing in support of school board candidate Madhavi Sunder. Madhavi is a highly respected legal scholar and law teacher. The hallmark of both her professional and personal life has been a strong commitment to social justice. A child of immigrants and the product of public primary and secondary schools, she recognizes that quality public schools are the foundation for equal opportunity and prosperity for all.
Madhavi, a parent of two children in Davis elementary schools, has boundless energy and a track record of involvement in the Davis schools. She has been a PTA volunteer and participant in the school district’s strategic planning process. She led the successful campaign to name Fred T. Korematsu Elementary after the native Californian who challenged the shameful wartime internment of Japanese-Americans.
Madhavi will do everything in her power to ensure that all children in the Davis schools can achieve their full potential. She respects teachers and will work to empower them with first-rate facilities and resources, professional development opportunities, and smaller class sizes. Madhavi works well with others and has the ability to turn almost every dispute into a win-win opportunity.
We are very fortunate in Davis that we have people with her talent and temperament willing to serve on our school board.
